My Approach

Working towards change and growth together

When people come to my office (either in person or via video session), I want them to feel as comfortable as possible. One of my strengths as a therapist is my ability to build connections with people through my warm, accepting and easy-going personality. I think of therapy sessions as a series of conversations between two (or more) people and I value being genuine and relatable in my work with clients of all ages. Though I am no longer a child or teen myself, my own children and the youth I have worked with over the years have been my best teachers in how to connect with young people.

In addition to a strong therapeutic relationship, I draw from many different therapeutic approaches when supporting clients, including:

-Emotion-Focused Therapy

-Cognitive- Behavioural Therapy

-Solution-Focused Therapy

-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

I have extensive experience working with concerns such as anxiety, depression, burnout (parental and/or more general), emotion regulation challenges, learning and attention challenges (LD, ADHD), social/interpersonal issues, family conflict, LGBTQ+ identity and concerns and more. I value working with and welcome people of diverse backgrounds and identities.

Therapy Services

Children and Adolescents

I work with children/adolescents 12 years old and up.  My goal is to support youth in being able to understand, accept and talk about their feelings, develop strategies to cope more effectively and to believe in their strengths. I engage youth in therapy sessions by using art/drawing, games, videos and more. When planning therapy sessions for youth, I take into account the youth's learning style (i.e. verbal vs. visual), attention span and openness to conversation. I have had the most success supporting youth when their parents/caregivers are involved in the therapy process.

Parents/Caregivers

Parenting is hard at the best of times and when things are challenging within the family, it can be overwhelming. Depending each family's unique situation, I may work with parents in combination with their child(ren), or on their own. When supporting parents, I primarily use the Emotion-Focused Therapy approach, which emphasizes the role of emotion in parent and child mental health.  When parents increase their ability to attend to and regulate emotions (their own and their child's), there is often a decrease in conflict, behavioural challenges and stress in the family.  My goal is to help parents build confidence in their ability to support their child(ren)  through increasing their understanding of emotions, developing specific tools and strengthening the parent-child relationship.

Adults- Individual Therapy

It takes courage to reach out for support. People often weigh this decision for a while, and then get to a place where they want something better for themselves.  Patterns develop over time in the way we think, feel, relate to others and feel about ourselves. Together we can look at these patterns and decide whether they are healthy, helpful and in line with what you want out of life. Whether your concerns are long-standing or have come up more recently, I can help.

Clinical Supervision

I provide clinical supervision to clinicians who are fully registered and looking for support with professional growth and case work, as well as those who are working towards meeting licensing requirements. I meet the requirements of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) to supervise clinicans working towards completing supervised practice hours. I have also supervised clinicians with other designations (mainly RSWs).
