Welcome to Cathy Dubrofsky Psychotherapy.

I specialize in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), a therapeutic approach that helps individuals and families understand and manage their emotions in healthier ways, leading to better mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.

In therapy sessions, I use EFT and other approaches to help people develop the skills and confidence needed to navigate life's many challenges. Whether you're a parent seeking guidance or an individual looking to manage anxiety and stress, my approach to therapy is client-centred, knowledgeable, and experienced.

About Me

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) who has worked in the mental health field since 2009. Over the years, my approach has evolved to focus on the role of emotions in overall mental heath.

Many clients have come to me feeling overwhelmed by sadness, isolation, anxiety, or anger. I aim to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore these feelings, learn how to regulate them and work towards a life of fulfillment, self-compassion, and joy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are psychotherapy sessions covered by OHIP?

Psychotherapy sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist are not covered by OHIP. Many employee/student benefit plans include coverage for Registered Psychotherapy sessions. Please check with your provider for more details.

Do you offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions?

Yes. I provide video sessions using a secure platform. I am able to work virtually with clients within Ontario and other provinces in some cases. I also have an office space in Burlington, Ontario.

How do I know if your approach will be a good "fit" for me?

Research shows that "fit" and  between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in predicting successful therapy outcomes. With this in mind, I offer a 30-minute initial consultation (free of charge) where we can discuss my approach and experience as well as your goals and hopes for therapy.

What if I have to cancel my session?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide 48 hours notice to avoid being charged for the session. I understand that life happens and emergencies come up, so I am happy to discuss individual situations.

What do I do if I'm experiencing a mental health crisis?

If you experiencing a mental health crisis, please go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
